Behind the Steel: Rebar Detailing at One Bloor – Elevating Toronto’s Residential Skyline
At the corner of Yonge and Bloor, Toronto’s most renowned intersection, stands One Bloor — a soaring 76-storey mixed-use tower rising 257 metres into the sky. Completed in 2017, it is one of Canada’s tallest residential towers and an emblematic feature of the city’s skyline. For Rebar Enterprises, the project was a chance to contribute to a landmark built not only on a foundation of concrete and steel, but also on layers of Toronto’s history.
The corner of Yonge and Bloor has long been regarded as one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in the country. For decades, it was home to smaller retail shops, and in the early 2000s it became the site of a failed condo project that was demolished before completion. The eventual rise of One Bloor symbolized more than just a new building — it represented the metamorphosis of an iconic intersection into a global address, blending architectural ambition with cultural significance.
Designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects and developed by Great Gulf, the tower emerges from a six-storey podium that hosts nearly 100,000 square feet of retail, then ascends into a striking residential form with more than 730 suites. Its sculpted balconies create a rippling façade that reflects the vibrancy of the city itself. Inside, residents enjoy over 27,000 square feet of luxurious amenities and 19,000 square feet of outdoor terraces, elevating urban living to resort standards.
For Rebar Enterprises, One Bloor demanded detailing precision equal to its daring design. The flowing curves of the balconies, the soaring vertical rise, and the metamorphosis from podium to tower required reinforcement layouts that were both practical and striking. By translating complex architectural concepts into buildable reinforcement systems, our team ensured the structural integrity of a tower that has since become one of Toronto’s most distinguished landmarks.
Today, One Bloor is more than a building — it is a marker of Toronto’s evolution. From a bustling retail corner to the home of one of the tallest residences in the nation, the site tells a story of persistence, ambition, and reinvention. Behind the glass and concrete, Rebar Enterprises’ detailing provides the unseen backbone, ensuring that this architectural statement stands enduring for generations to come.
